  • RUWMOneSmallThing – We have Trump’s tax cuts on our minds this week, and we believe that any tax cuts should help working families and not wealthy corporate leaders. So, this this week’s #RUWMOneSmallThing, is to sign this pledge from Not One Penny (a project of The Tax March), saying that you will work to oppose any effort to cut taxes for the wealthy and well-connected. The pledge form is in this link. Let’s take this first step and say we will be part of the loud opposition to Trump’s proposed tax breaks for the wealthiest 1%.
  • Help Las Vegas and support better healthcare – (Action item via Rogan’s List) While Congress is steadfastly protecting gun rights, it is simultaneously denying reasonable access to quality health care to those who are victims of gun violence.  Take the Las Vegas tragedy as an example, many of the people who were injured will be dealt another blow when medical bills arrive.
    • Clark County Commission Chair Steve Sisolak has set up a GoFundMe account to help the victims.  No other country handles health care this way.  You can contribute if you are so moved
    • Send a message to thank Sisolak:
    • Then, let’s tell our legislators that we want them to work across the aisle and fix healthcare in the USA and while they are at it, work on some common-sense gun safety.  Most Americans want both! Make those calls, send those letters.  You know the drill!
  • Divest in Guns – From Wall-of-Us: It’s true–after every mass shooting gun stocks prices rise because Americans buy more guns, and Las Vegas was no different. What you may not know is that you are probably investing in guns. That’s right, those of us who are saving for retirement or our kids’ college likely have gun stocks (which are highly lucrative) in our portfolios. That’s because, some of the largest investors own considerable shares in these gun companies. Visit goodbyegunstocks to see whether your investment portfolio includes gun stocks. Then share the link on your own social media.
  • Support those impacted by the wildfires in Northern California. From Indivisible National: After more than a week, wildfires continue to consume Northern California. Thousands of homes have been destroyed and more than 40 people have died. Contribute now to the North Bay Fire Relief fund endorsed by Indivisible Sonoma County to support relief efforts.
  • Call on Congress to Step Up Where the EPA is Letting Us Down on Brain-Damaging Pesticides – (action item via Massachusetts Together) Time and again, the Trump-Pruitt EPA has let us down and shirked their responsibility to protect our welfare, including failing to act to protect farm workers, their kids and rural families from the brain-damaging pesticide chlorpyrifos. But Democrats in Congress are stepping up where Polluting Pruitt has failed to act, introducing HR 3380 and S 1624 to ban this poison. In Massachusetts, Senator Markey and Representatives McGovern and Tsongas are already signed on to these efforts. Let’s join the United Farm Workers in contacting Senator Warren and our other House reps and asking them to co-sponsor this legislation at the link below. Tell your Congress members to co-sponsor chlorpyrifos ban bill.
